Last year was a non-traditional Mother’s Day due to the COVID-19 pandemic restrictions, particularly, physical distancing. Mother’s Day Activities for Seniors were limited to zoom calls, mailing gifts and using virtual technology to express love and support for our mothers.

The vaccine has however changed how we will celebrate this year. With most of our seniors vaccinated, it is now safe for us to celebrate Mother’s Day with our moms. We are excited to share Mother’s Day activities for seniors.

  • Meal at Mom’s Favorite Restaurant

Most states have eased their restrictions on indoor dining in restaurants. It is the perfect opportunity to take your mom out for a meal at her favorite restaurant and also support businesses in the hospitality industry. You can also opt for a staycation at a local hotel for your mom. If your mother prefers staying in or is unable to make it to a restaurant, you can cook her favorite meal or cook it with her.

  • Gardening, Nature Walks or Picnic

The weather is warming up for Summer and the weather around Mother’s Day is perfect to spend time outside gardening. You can also take advantage of your local park by taking a walk or siting as you enjoy the view with mom. While at the park you can have a picnic for you and mom or the whole family. Make it extra special by bringing foods that mom likes.

  • Shopping Spree/ Mall Visit

Treat your mom to a shopping spree at a mall. You can either spend time shopping, enjoying food and snacks in the mall or just strolling around the mall. It is also a perfect opportunity to take advantage of the Mother’s Day sales that are in most stores. You can also watch a movie at the theaters to celebrate Mother’s Day. Still not sure what to buy or get, check these options on Amazon.

  • Spa Day

Mothers deserve to be pampered on this special day. Booking her an appointment at the spa for a massage, facial, mud bath or acupuncture will leave her rejuvenated and relaxed. You can also book her an appointment at her favorite salon for a manicure and pedicure.

  • Home Cooking and Baking

Nothing beats a home cooked meal prepared with love, a mother’s love. If your mother enjoys cooking or baking, getting the family involved can be a way to celebrate Mother’s Day. Getting involved in activities that your mother enjoys goes a long way in showing her that you appreciate her.

  • Gift of Care

For those that are unable to travel home for Mother’s Day, the gift of care is an ideal Mother’s Day gift. If your mother stays alone, you can consider the gift of Companion care. Loneliness among seniors can be detrimental to their mental health, therefore companions will provide the needed contact and stimulation with the outside world.

  • Board or Card Games

Spending quality time by playing board or card games with mom might just make her day better. You can also teach her a new game or even learn how to play a new game together. Puzzles can also be another way to spend time with her. Check out I See Me for puzzle ideas.
